Jonestown Ants

I woke up this morning and there were the carcasses of 20-30 ants scattered around my apartment. Not pleasant.

Don’t know if this was some ritualistic mass suicide, or if they just ate some of the stew I made the night before and realized (too late) how unsavory it was. But regardless of the cause, bottom line is, it’s never fun to wake up to a pile of dead ants (or have one crawl out of your bowl of Rice Krispies, but that’s another story for another time).

Due to this occurrence, and several others, I have decided to start a series called “Insects found in my apartment.”

This is not intended to discourage people from coming to visit me or stay at my place, but it’s just a fact of life, that when in Africa, lots of weird/huge/interesting insects end up in your living quarters, no matter how clean you keep your place. So, I thought this was worth documenting.
